People who are suffering from depression can feel sadness at a more intense state of mind than others, and often there is no real reason as to why that person feels so sad. It also may be the case that the person has some severe depression physical symptoms coupled with the overwhelming sadness feeling.

Many people who do suffer from depression are late to be diagnosed as sometimes the doctors are dealing with the physical aspects of the patients complaints rather than noticing that the patient actually is suffering with depression. Severe depression physical symptoms can feel so bad that the doctor will run an extensive amount of tests to see what is actually causing the physical pain only to come up with nothing, it is only then that the doctor will probably look at other reasons for your pain and lethargic moods it is highly possible that the patient does not realize that they are suffering from a form of depression so they are not really able to make the doctor aware that this could be one reason for the pain.
Once the doctor has been made aware that depression could be a cause of your illness, he or she will be able to start talking to you about a course of treatment that would be best suited for you. Like treating a lot of illnesses, treating depression can be hit or miss it may be that you will need to try a couple of different medications before they find one that works for them.
Depression medication can and do come with side effects some of them include nausea, weight gain, headaches and in extreme side effect cases some depression medication can have a reverse effect and perhaps make you feel more depressed and even suicidal. This is why it is really important to feel comfortable with your general practitioner because you really will have to speak honestly and openly with your doctor about what is going on and how you are feeling, you will have to let the doctor know if you are experiencing any of the side effects. If you do let your doctor know he or she will be able to supervise you ceasing that medication and trying another medication, this is much like any other illness, sometimes one antibiotic treatment will not work as good as another treatment.
Your doctor may also suggest that you speak to a psychologist as well, this is because a psychologist has the ability to teach you how to try and change your thought pattern with a thing called cognitive behavior techniques, basically a good psychologist will help you to understand your thought process and help you to try and change the negative thinking with some behavioral techniques.
